Jewels stake clean card vs Sparks

- Joey Villar -
Montaña Pawnshop seeks to extend its streak to five games as it takes on a dangerous Toyota Otis side today in the PBL Unity Cup at the Olivares Gym.

Atop the heap with four victories, the Jewels collide with the Sparks, currently tied with the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters at second spot on 3-1 (win-loss) slates, at 4 p.m. hoping to keep their lofty perch.

"We’re here to win, that’s our purpose," said Montaña coach Nel Parado.

Froilan Baguion played big in their last game, leading Montana to a 60-58 upset of defending champion Rain or Shine Tuesday at the FEU gym.

The former National University point guard is again expected to play a key role as the Jewels stake their clean slate against the Sparks.

"He showed that in our last game, he’s really one of the best point guards in the league today," said Parado in Filipino

Baguion, a member of the NU squad which defied the odds and made it to the UAAP Final Four five years ago, will be up against Boyet Bautista, whom he has beaten for the Player of the Week honors.

Bautista, a guard out of Letran, shone in the Sparks’ 72-69 come-from-behind triumph over the Teletech Titans.

In the other game, the Painters shoot for a fourth win as they battle the Titans at 2 p.m. Teletech, for its part, aims to improve on its 1-3 card.
