Red Lions, Lady Eagles unbeaten in HAIL caging

-
Pre-tournament favorite San Beda College played true to form, even as Emilio Aguinaldo College hacked out another impressive win on the road to stay in the upper half of the standings at the resumption of the Home and Away Invitational League late last week.

The EAC Generals didn’t disappoint their homecrowd as it turned back Ateneo de Manila, 64-57, while the SBC Red Lions bucked a hostile crowd to turn back College of St. Benilde, 70-57.

In women’s basketball action, Ateneo’s Lady Eagles trounced the Lady Generals, 88-58, for its third straight win in the only home-and-away collegiate league backed by Adidas, the official outfitter, and Sunbolt, the official drink.

The Red Lions also rolled to their third straight triumph in the men’s side, thanks to another inspired game by starters Roger Menor, who finished with 18 points and the hulking Jay-R Taganas, who added 10.

Carmelo Manding led the Blazers with 11, but was the only player in CSB’s side to score in double-digits, with Gerald Layug as the next highest scorer with eight. With the loss, the Blazers dropped to a 1-2 card in a tie with the University of the East and La Salle.

Gester Ebuen led three other Generals with double digit scores against the badly outclassed Ateneo Blue Eagles. Ebuen topscored with 16, while John Ronald Valderama chipped in 13, and Nichole Hubalde and Mark Du added 10 apiece.

Guard Jai Reyes led Ateneo with 13.
