Goma makes mark in clay

Actor Richard Gomez shot 129 points out of 150 targets to emerge 2005 national sporting clays champion recently at the Team GomaSport Clays shooting range in Taytay, Rizal.
Using a powerful, slower and smaller bore yet accurate 20 gauge Perazzi MXS and Beretta Urika shotgun, Gomez nipped Raul Arambulo, who carded 127.
The actors other victims in the national sporting clays championship were Southeast Asian Games gold medalists Darius Hizon and Nonoy Bernardo and 2005 Compak Sporting national champion June Vergara.
Entering the finals to shoot 25 targets, Vergara made a 20 to settle for third with 128, Hizon collapsed with 16 for a 127 and fourth spot and Bernardo made a 17 to finish fifth with 138.
Vergara won the Class A competition over Hizon and Joey Valdes (119).

Class B Sam Santos, 105 targets, champion; Allan Canlas, 104, second; and Randell Tambongco, 100, third.
Class C Voltaire Balagtas, 77, champion; Carlo Garcia, 73, second; and Noel Alba, 71, third.
20 gauge Raul Arambulo, 151, champion; Jonet Morales, 119, second; and Sherwin Topacio, 99, third.
Senior class Nonoy Bernardo, 138, champion; George Earnshaw, 115, second; and Ed Mijares, 101, third.
Veterans class Tony Gana, 102, champion; Nestor de Castro 91, second; and Emil Dalican, 91, third.
Ladies Irene Garcia, 95, champion; Tet Lara, 93, second; and Aimee Gana, 85, third.
Arambulo threatened Gomez in the finals, shooting a 9 and 10 against the latters 8 and 10. But in the last five targets, Gomez steadied to make it.
SCAP chair and Taytay Mayor Joric Gacula praised the 72 contenders for their excellence, sportsmanship and camaraderie. He said competition will resume in January at the Pampangas Best range in San Fernando, Pampanga.
