This early, Alex Pagulayan has declared himself willing, able and ready to represent the Philippines in the 2006 Asian Games in Doha, Qatar.
Pagulayan, a Filipino-Canadian, won three gold medals in the recent SEA Games. Only three others scored that feat for the Philippines diver Shiela Mae Perez, rower Benjie Tolentino and swimmer Miguel Molina.
During last Fridays SCOOP sa Kamayan forum, Pagulayan said hes willing to don the RP colors in future international competitions like the SEA Games or the Asian Games even if he has to skip some events in the world circuit.
"This victory is very special for me. And Im very happy. Normally, I dont win tournaments on my first try. But in the SEA Games, I won three gold medals," said the young and energetic cue artist.
The 2004 World 9-Ball champion won the golds in 8-ball pool singles, 9-ball pool doubles with Dennis Orcullo and team snooker with Leonardo Andam, Joven Alba and Felipe Tauro.Pagulayan, who is still in the country savoring his victory in the SEA Games where the Philippines emerged overall champion, said he has a very busy schedule starting next year.
"There are so many tournaments lined up for us, including Efren Reyes and Django Bustamante. But Im willing to play again for the Philippines. Just give me a call," Pagulayan said.
First Gentleman Mike Arroyo was seated beside Pagulayan during the forum, and cited the latter for his patriotism.
"I admire him for that. I admire him for choosing to play in the SEA Games and represent the country rather than play somewhere else," said the First Gentleman, who helped raise the funds that were used to train the RP athletes.
The First Gentleman also cited golfer Juvic Pagunsan, who won the individual gold and the team gold (with Michael Bibat, Jay Bayron and Marvin Dumandan) in the SEA Games, which came to a close last week.
"I heard he (Pagunsan) already had plans to turn pro but held back just to compete in the SEA Games. I thank them for that," said the First Gentleman.
