The Philippines Brian Peralta, ranged against seasoned competitors who have trained for years, seized the bronze medal in the individual aerobic gymnastics event which Thailand dominated with a four-gold sweep at the close of competitions at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum yesterday.
Thailands Nattawut Pimpa earned two gold medals in the individual (19.550) and the mixed pairs (18.550) aerobics ensemble while compatriot Roypim Ngampeerapong (19.650) upset Tyana Dewi Koesumawati of Indonesia (18.700) in the womens individual division.
Indonesias Faizal Amirullah and Fahmy Fachrezzy scored 18.100 for the silver in the trio competition with Lody, who also won the silver in the mens individual contest (18.850).
Peralta, a bronze medalist in the Vietnam Southeast Asian Games, said the government should help give gymnasts more training and exposure not only nationally, but globally.
"We lack training. Our competitors have been training for years," Peralta said. Reagan Tan
