Amit nails 2nd gold in billiards

Rubilen Amit captured her second gold in grand fashion, blanking Malaysia’s Suhana Dewi B Sablu, 11-0, in the finals of women’s 9-ball pool singles of the 23rd Southeast Asian Games at the Makati Coliseum yesterday.

The 24-year old Amit simply dominated her Malaysian opponent in their race-to-11 finals at the close of the billiards and snooker competitions.

"I’m really happy with this win. And we really appreciate the support given us by our countrymen throughout the competitions," said Amit.

She earlier won the women’s 8-ball pool singles gold two days ago to cap a splendid show by the RP billiards team in the Games, finishing with eight golds to go with two silvers and one bronze.

Alex Pagulayan sputtered in quarterfinals of men’s 9-ball pool singles, and absorbed a 9-11 defeat at the hands Vietnam’s Luong Chi Dung, who went all the way to finals opposite another Vietnamese Chan Keng Kwan.

Thailand, which won the men’s snooker singles courtesy of Issara Kachaiwong, who beat compatriot Nitiwat Kanjanasri 4-0, finished with two golds and four silvers. — Arman Carandang
