P.25M staked in team chess

More than a quarter of a million are at stake with the champion team bringing home P100,000 in the 2005 National Inter-Cities and Municipalities Chess Team Championships Tagaytay City, through Mayor Abraham "Bambol" Tolentino, is hosting from Oct. 24 -30 at the Tagaytay Sports Complex.

More than 30 teams are again expected to sign up for the National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP)-organized tournament which Muntinlupa City dominated last year.

"We expect the cast to be even bigger this year and competition tighter and more exciting," said Tolentino, whose city is also hosting chess and road race of cycling of the 23rd Southeast Asian Games in November.

Second place in the tournament is worth P60,000, while the third-placer brings home P40,000, the fourth-placer P20,000 and the fifth-placer P15,000.

The team that places sixth still falls in the money list with P10,000, and the seventh to 10th placers will bag P8,000, P7,000, P6,000 and P5,000, respectively.

The individual champions on all five boards will also receive P3,000 each. The top 10 team finishers will also receive attractive trophies

"We are again rolling out the red carpet for the players and officials to our city for the Inter-Cities and Municipalities," said Tolentino, who has transformed the scenic and cool city of Tagaytay as one of the leading sports havens in the country.

Tolentino’s Tagaytay City team was bannered by Grandmaster Joey Antonio and International Master Richard Bitoon when it finished runnerup last year.
