Warriors sustain run, ground Falcons

University of the East kept the fire of its upset of Far Eastern U Sunday with a 78-57 win over Adamson yesterday as the Warriors drew within striking distance of the pacesetting Tamaraws in the UAAP basketball tournament at the Blue Eagle gym.

With two wins in a row in the second round and three straight dating back to the first round, the Warriors are now just half-game behind of the Tams with a 7-2 win-loss record.

FEU sports a 7-1 card with its lone defeat coming at the hands of UE in their second meeting in the tourney Sunday at the Araneta Coliseum. Tireless on their full-court pressing defense and running attack, the Warriors sent the Falcons reeling to their sixth loss against two wins.

The game was actually close in the first half but fell apart in the final half with the Warriors pressing their bid upon their return from the halftime huddle.

With UE taking a 57-41 bulge at the end of the third quarter, coach Dindo Pumaren had the luxury of using his reserves to put the finishing touch in their victory.

Earlier, La Salle broke its jinx in the Katipunan venue as it bucked the absence of two players in walloping Santo Tomas, 98-72.

The Archers, though missing the injury-stricken Rico Maierholfer and Ryan Arana, methodically ran the Growling Tigers to submission for their first win in the venue this season.
