Tams target 5th win vs winless Bulldogs
July 28, 2005 | 12:00am
Top meets bottom today as unbeaten Far Eastern U shoots for its fifth straight victory against winless National U even as defending champion La Salle eyes its third win in five games against a struggling UST side in the 68th UAAP mens basketball tournament at the Araneta Coliseum.
Last years MVP Arwind Santos is again expected to take charge for the Tams in their 1:30 p.m. encounter with the Bulldogs, whose bid got a big boost when main man Edwin Asoro was spared of a possible suspension by the UAAP board.
Asoro, currently the leagues leading scorer with a 17-point norm, and Ateneos Doug Kramer were ejected after figuring in a near-fistfight during the Ateneo-NU match last Sunday. Both escaped suspension but were severely warned.
But the Bulldogs would need more than Asoro to prick the glowing FEU bubble with the Tams itching to notch their fifth win in row after routing the Tigers, 76-62, over the weekend.
Meantime, the Archers, who barely survived host Adamson, 65-58, Saturday, gun for solo fourth spot as they meet the Tigers, hardpressed to score their first victory after dropping their first four assignments.
The Archers are currently bunched with the idle Adamson Falcons and Eagles at No. 4 on 2-2 (win-loss) slates.
