Search on for RP slots to World Cyber Games

-
E-sportsmen from all over the country spring into competitive mode for the fourth Samsung Cyber Games, the official national eliminations to the prestigious World Cyber Games (WCG) to be held in Singapore this November.

Competitors will play CounterStrike, WarCraft 3, StarCraft and Need for Speed Underground, as they vie for nine available slots in the Philippine team, with the national finals slated in September.

Samsung Electronics Philippines Corp. (SEPCO) is renewing its corporate support and naming rights to the Philippine preliminary. The consumer electronics company has been helping popularize WCG’s vision to bring the local e-sports community together since 2002.

In addition to its support of the game industry, Samsung believes there is a strong need to maximize the beneficial effects of games by nurturing a sound and healthy gaming culture.

"Samsung is committed to promote programs geared towards youth and development. Enabling young Filipinos to compete in the World Cyber Games offers two of the most stimulating and enjoyable activities for today’s youth — sports and digital entertainment," says SEPCO president and CEO Hyuck Jae Shim.

The World Cyber Games is the world’s first "Cyber Game Festival", designed to build a cyber culture based on goodwill and camaraderie. Top e-sportsmen worldwide gather in various cities to share the excitement and fun of the game tournaments. Acknowledged as the biggest computer and video game event with the largest prize money and scale, it hosted gamers from 63 countries all over the world in last year’s event. As the Olympics embody harmony and peace by bringing together the world’s athletes every four years, WCG seeks to achieve the same effect in electronic gaming every year.

The World Cyber Games also organizes a conference in game business and exhibition for game industry leaders and exhibitors to look into the past and the future of computer gaming, helping the industry to see the overall trend and possibilities for the future.

Registration for the fourth Samsung Cyber Games is ongoing until July 15 at various internet cafes nationwide. To download registration forms and contest rules, log on to http://www.samsung.ph.
