4th QC Olympics unwraps today

-
The fourth edition of the Batang Quezon City Summer Olympics begins today at the newly-refurbished Amoranto Stadium with 2,000 athletes from 142 barangays expected to slug it out in eight sports disciplines

The annual event, organized by the QC Sports Development Council under Mayor Sonny Belmonte and Vice Mayor Herbert Bautista, will get under way at 5 p.m. in elaborate rites.

Held in partnership with the Philippine Olympic Committee, Philippine Sports Commission, Department of Education and the Department of Interior and Local Government, the sportsfest is aimed at discovering and developing talents who will banner the city’s bid in national meets like the Palarong Pambansa slated May 8-14 in Iloilo.

"We hope to discover new talents this year to represent the city in national events like the Palaro," said Bautista.

Open to city residents aged 16 years and below, events to be contested are athletics, swimming, table tennis, karatedo, taekwondo, badminton, chess and arnis.
