DLSU, Letran try to catch up with PSC at 2nd

La Salle and Letran eye a share of second with idle Philippine Sports Commission as they take on struggling Far Eastern U and winless Lyceum, respectively, as action in the second conference of the Shakeys V-League heats up today at the Rizal Coliseum.
With Cherry Macatangay-Rivera and Joan Botor-Carpio on the firing end, Letran subdued a stubborn San Sebastian side, 25-20, 26-24, 26-28, 21-25, 17-15, to notch its second victory in three games Thursday.
That enabled the Lady Knights to catch up with the La Salle spikers, who picked up their second straight win after an opening day loss to defending champion University of Santo Tomas with a come-from-behind 21-25, 25-14, 25-21, 25-17, victory over the SSC belles.
But the Taft Ave.-based Lady Archers will have their hands full against the Lady Tams, who finally snapped a two-game skid with a stirring triumph over Lyceum last Thursday where they battled back from two sets down to sweep the next three to complete an improbable 19-25, 25-27, 25-18, 25-23, 15-10 win.
La Salle, the back-to-back UAAP titlist, battles FEU at 1 p.m. before Letran and Lyceum collide at 3 p.m. Admission is free with the first game to be telecast on IBC-13 starting at 3 p.m. today with the Letran-Lyceum match to be aired Monday.
Both matches are expected to be close with no teams holding a distinct advantage over the other, further underscoring the level of competition among seven teams in the event sponsored by Shakeys Pizza and organized by Sports Vision Management Group, Inc.
In fact, despite the 0-2 and 0-3 records of Lyceum and San Sebastian, respectively, the Lady Pirates and the Lady Stags remain a force to reckon with and are expected to come back strong from those lost games that could have gone either way.
