14-game sweep in the works for awesome EAC Generals

-
Host Emilio Aguinaldo College stayed on track of scoring a rare 14-game sweep of the eliminations following another impressive victory at the expense of Colegio de San Lorenzo yesterday, 72-63, in the third Universities and Colleges Athletics Association (UCAA) basketball tournament at the EAC Gym.

Later in the day, Philippine School of Business Administration, last year’s runner-up, survived National College of Business and Arts in overtime, 100-93, to keep its campaign going in the eight-school meet backed by Accel, New Balance shoes, Arena swimwear, Villa de Oro Resorts Boracay, Shakey’s Pizza, Molten and Mikasa balls.

EAC hotshots Ronjay Buenafe and Niño Songco struggled at the offensive end, but coach Nomar Isla found another go-to guy in Lionel Rivera who poured in a team-high 17 points, his first double digit output for the season, to lead the Generals to a repeat victory over the Griffins for their 10th straight win.

"Rivera (Lionel) came out of his shell and led us to victory," said Isla. "Despite having our key players in foul trouble, our bench did the most damage against the opponents."
