Jennys 70 enhances bid to make cut

Faced with the specter of missing the cut, Jennifer Rosales recovered her form a bit and shot a two-under par 70, hoping to make it to the weekend play in the Weetabix Womens British Open with half of the field still to complete play at the Sunningdale Golf Club in Berkshire, England Friday.
A bogey on No. 16 ruined what couldve been a fine round for Rosales, who had a running three-under card after 15 holes and even-par overall that couldve guaranteed her stint in the final two rounds of the $1.6 million championship.
Rosales had to scramble for birdies and a spot in the Open weekend after opening her bid in this third major championship with a woeful 75 Thursday, a poor round she blamed on poor putting.
"It was one of those days that she cant make her putts," said Rosales swing coach Bong Lopez. "Shes been hitting the ball close all day but walang ngang pumasok na putt. Tatlo ang three-putts, yung dalawa sa par-5."
The last of those three-putts was on the par-4 18th where Rosales turned a potential birdie putt from 12 feet into a bogey mishap.
But it was her stint on the par-4 11th that ruined her day where she hit the ball into the duct twice, the first on her drive and the other on her second shot for a double-bogey 6.
She had another heartbreaker of a putt , flubbing a par bid from just three feet on the par-3 8th that negated her gimme birdie on the opening par-5 hole.
But Rosales quickly fought back with three birdies in the next five holes, including back-to-back from No. 9 only to drop another shot when she bogeyed the last par-3 on No. 15.
"I think a one-over card would be enough, so okay lang itong 2-under," said Lopez. "Okay naman ang wrist niya, masama lang talaga ang putting."
Rosales actually stood in joint 91st after that 75 but climbed to as high as No. 40 after birdying the par-3 No. 13.
Karen Stupples, who paced the stellar field with a 65 in the first round, slowed down with a 70 but remained the clubhouse leader with the likes of Swede ace and world No. 1 Annika Sorenstam still to tee off after shooting a 68 Thursday.
Fil-Am Dorothy Delasin, who opened with a 73, had a running even-par card after five holes.
