Villaroman rules Riviera leg; paces WGAP circuit rankings

-
Former RP Ladies Open champion Carmelette Villaroman continued to hold sway in the Women’s Golf Association of the Philippines’ ranking after three legs of the WGAP circuit.

Villaroman fired a two-under -par 70 at the Riviera Golf and Country Club last week to amass a total gross score of 218, which included rounds of 72 and 76. Lina de Guzman had 221 (70-79-72) for second followed by Stephanie Yu’s 232 (74-84-74) and Lucy Landicho’s 236 (75-82-79) in that order.

An average of at least five games in the eight-leg circuit will determine the rating comprising 20 percent of the total tabulation, including other tournaments such as the Luzvimin in Cebu in August, the Samsung Amateur Tour, the Southern Ladies Open and the Phil. Ladies Open in January, 2005.

Meanwhile, rookie club Northwoods paced the Class A stableford team play competition with a 2-1 victory over Wack Wack. Len Mangulabnan scored 46 points and was backed by Joanna Pajara’s 39 points, In Nye Cho’s 37 points, and Maline Flores’ 36 points for a total of 158 points. Sta. Elena and Riviera had 152 points each.

Phil. Navy scored its first win in Class B with Gilda Medestomas’ 42 points leading the team of Remy Perez, Nanie Cruz, and Rose Torrefranca for a 158 total over Riviera’s 157 and Southwoods’ 155 points. In Class C, Alabang showed the way, thanks to Merle Garcia’s 41, Maria Brumann’s 40, Leonila Fornier’s 40 and Tina Javellana’s 35 for a total of 156. Villamor and Wack Wack had 153 and 152 points, respective
