BMW, US trips at stake in Belle Cup golf tourney

-
Huge prizes await the winners and participants in the fifth edition of the Belle Cup two-man team golf tournament set May 21-22 at the Tagaytay Highlands and Midlands golf courses.

With the addition of Perfect Smile, International Exchange Bank, Time Depot, Wilson Sports, Fly Ace, Lacoste and Oakley as sponsors, the organizing Belle Corp., developer of the two world-class courses, announced everything is ready for this year’s biggest club tournament.

"This being the Club’s anniversary, preparations for the Belle Cup–in terms of prizes, giveaways, awards dinner and program — have been scaled notches higher as this is our way of thanking our members for their continued support over the last 10 years," said Willy Ocier, vice chairman of Belle Corporation.

A BMW unit from PGA cars and roundtrip tickets for two to the US courtesy of Northwest Airlines are at stake as major prizes, while special prizes will be given away during the raffle.

"We expect the biggest number of participants in this year’s Belle Cup. Four days after opening the registration, we have already reached more than half the total number of teams expected to participate," said Loy Bernardino, assistant GM for Golf and Sports Services.

Only the first 150 teams composed of a club member or dependent paired with a non-pro playing partner are allowed to play in this unique three-in-one tournament with PGA Cars, Northwest Airlines, Powell Chemicals, Kart Plaza and Werdenberg International and SM Prime as major sponsors.

Deadline for submission of entries is until 5 p.m. Saturday. Tournament fee is P5,000 inclusive of practice round in the two venues.

Format of the tournament will be a two-man Stableford using full handicap of the players. The whole field will be divided into two groups with one group to play at the Highlands and the other at Midlands.

The two groups will switch courses on the second day. The team with the best score in both courses wins the club championship while the team which has the best aggregate scores after two days will take home the Belle Cup.

"This is expected to be the most competitive of the Belle Cup tournaments–having quite a number of low handicap teams and noted amateur participating," said Club president Jerry Tiu.
