Eala summons erring cagers

- Joey Villar -
For their misbehavior over the weekend, Barangay Ginebra center Andy Seigle, Red Bull Barako forward Homer Se and Coca-Cola import Mark Sanford will be reprimanded, fined, and possibly, suspended anytime this week.

Reports have it that commissioner Noli Eala has already summoned the 6-7 Seigle to appear at his office tomorrow at 11 a.m. to give his side on a flagrant foul against Purefoods TJ Hotdogs forward Richard Yee in their game won by the Kings, 117-89, last Saturday at the Philsports Arena.

Se and Sanford, for their part, have yet to receive a summons from Eala but the two are expected to be questioned for their involvement in a near fistfight in the Barako’s, 99-90, triumph over the Tigers also last Saturday.

Perry Martinez, who heads the league’s technical committee, said the three could be fined although he did not say how much the league will slap on the players involved.

"We’re still reviewing the tapes," Martinez told The STAR. "There is a corresponding fine for every flagrant foul but as to the gravity of their offense, we will definitely know this week when the PBA talks to these players."

Martinez did not rule out a possible suspension.

Seigle, who was traded by Purefoods to Barangay Ginebra in exchange for Jun Limpot before the season, hit the 6-4 Yee with a closed fist midway in the third quarter of their game. That led to his automatic ejection.

Se, for his part, misbehaved much early than Seigle as the former San Sebastian stalwart was thrown out with still nine minutes remaining in the first quarter with an attempted kick on Sanford. He was assessed as a flagrant foul 2 by the referees.

Sanford, on the other hand, was not ejected but he was assessed a lighter infraction — a flagrant foul 1 — that also merited a reprimand and a fine from Eala.

Only two weeks ago, a near fistfight between San Miguel Beer’s Art Long and Purefoods’ Tyrone Washington ensued before cooler heads prevailed. The two were summoned last week.
