Asistio, Agojo off to big start in AsPac jungolf

-
Tonton Asistio grabbed a share of the lead in boys Class B even as Jayvie Agojo and Wolen Superal stayed within striking distance in their respective divisions for an auspicious Philippine start in the 25th Asia-Pacific Junior Golf Championships which started Tuesday at the Dami Indah Golf and Country Club in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Asistio carded a one-over-par 73 on nines of 35-38 to join Raghav Wahi of India and Tsai Tsung Yu of Taiwan at the top in the division for players 13-14 years old.

Agojo kicked off her bid in girls Class A (15-17 years) with a 70 that put her in third place just two shots behind Lee II Hee of Korea and a stroke off Tseng Ya Nie of Taiwan while Superal was down by four also in third place in boys Class C (11-12).

Superal shot a 76 against the 72 of Thailand’s Konlamat and Chiang Yung Hung of Taiwan.

The 54-hole tourney has attracted the best jungolfers in the region totaling 170 from 12 countries.

The RP girls team of Agojo, Geleen Handog and Crystal Faith Superal were in fourth place with a 146 total while Asistio and teammates Gino Bunyi and Mikee Camitoc were a far sixth in the boys team competition. Both divisions were led by Korea.

Crystal Superal, carding a 76 was running fifth in girls Class B although she was far adrift of Korean Choi He Yong who fired at 69.

Meanwhile, in the fifth leg at the Samsung Jungolf Tour, Terence Macatangay seemed on the way to a second consecutive win after a two-day total of 150 put him 22 strokes up on Min Lee Kwang at the Tat Filipinas Golf Club course.

The other boys division leaders were Migo Ochoa in Class B and Rocco Sumabat in Class C. In the girls side, Erika Salinas paced Class A while Paulina Sotto was on top in Class C.

Over at the Riviera executive course, JP de Claro and Dottie Ardina led Class D (9-10 years), JR Gonzales and Felicia Medalla showed the way in Class E (7-8 years) while Janela Buen and Polo Reyes moved ahead in Class F (six years and under).
