Youth vs experience in Petron beach volley

ANGELES CITY, Pampanga – It will be youth versus experience in the final of the second leg of the 2004 Petron ladies’ beach volleyball tournament.

University of the Philippines’ Karla San Diego and Jackie Ann Montefrio put premium on defense in their close 21-19 semifinal decision over Lou Margaret Maranon and Gamela Ann Septo at the specially made sand-court situated at the heart of the Clearwater Country Club here.

San Diego and Montefrio, runners-up in the first leg also held at the same venue inside the former Clark Airfields, will battle for the P10,000 top purse the Navy tandem of Helen Dosdos and Johanna Carpio, who scored yet another lopsided win at the expense of Rophalyn Sebastian and Lalaine Victoria of Bulacan.

"We relied so much on defense. We made sure that we were be able to return every shot (by our rivals)," said the comely San Diego, whose tandem with Montefrio produced four victories in the elimination round of the this event supported by Petron and Nissan, and with Wilson as official ball.

The finals were being played yesterday afternoon.
