Sy goes for first leg win in Toyota race

-
Tyson Sy is eyeing a win in the first leg of the 2004 Formula Toyota Championship, which will be held at the Batangas Racing Circuit in Rosario, Batangas tomorrow.

The 16-year-old’s confidence was buoyed by the result of a recent test session wherein he broke the unofficial track record of 1 minute 32.8 seconds set by Japanese driver Youhi Sekiguchi in the same car by almost one second.

Sy, who will campaign in the series with the Edgen Dy-Liacco-owned Edgesport team and is sponsored by San Miguel Corp., Caltex Havoline Racing, Demvel Motorsports, A-Toy Body Kits and PR Custom Paints, stands to become the youngest Formula Toyota champion in history if he bests his fellow competitors in the series’ three legs, which will be held at the Batangas Racing Circuit.

"The tests have been very encouraging," Sy said. "I hope to perform well in the race and, if possible, win for my team and sponsors," he added.

The Formula Toyota Series will be held at BRC tomorrow and Dec. 5.
