Superals, Agojo bound for US jungolf

Wolen Superal and his sisters Crystal Faith and Princess all made it to the country’s team to the Callaway Junior World championships in San Diego, California as the siblings crushed the opposition in the Samsung-sponsored national qualifier at the Sherwood Hills and Riviera executive courses.

The stars of last year’s campaign will also be back to spearhead this year’s contingent. Jayvie Agojo, Dottie Ardina and Miguel Tabuena powered their way to easy victories in the tourney serving as the third leg of the Samsung Philippine Junior Golf Tour also given major backing by International Container Terminal Services, Inc.

Superal capped his unchallenged victory in boys Class C (11-12 years) with a one-under-par 71 for a 34-stroke victory. He earned the chance to make up for last year’s sorry miss in the Junior World where he led after two rounds only to collapse on the last day.

His sisters also carved out big victories with Crystal Faith closing out with an 82-237 to rule the girls Class B by 14 while young Princess earned a 27-shot win with her 75-215.

Agojo made sure her slot was secure with a one-over 73, giving her the girls Class A plum. Ardina’s superb four-under 68 sent her storming to a 26-stroke victory in girls Class D while Tabuena stamped his class in Class D which he won by 14 shots after a 73-218.

Miko Yee pulled off a shock win in boys Class B, Cyna Rodriguez emerged as the new Class C bet while JR Gonzales reclaimed his title in Class E to join the qualifiers of the event also supported by Callaway, Golf Pro International, Unilever and Gonads.

Yee fired a four-under 68 to earn a 12-shot win, Rodriguez formalized her win with a 76-156 while Gonzales turned his duel with arch rival AR Ramos into a six-stroke romp by shooting a 61 for 178. The Class F (six-under) titles went to Justin Dy (66-198) and Janella Buen (67-217).

The next leg will be played next week at the Mt. Malarayat Golf Club course in Lipa, Batangas.
