Celebrities grace opening of Spa badminton center

- Joey Villar -
The Spa Acropolis Badminton Center in Libis, Quezon City opened over the weekend with exhibition games by popular showbiz personalities and former national players.

Showbiz people like Ruby Rodriguez and Paolo Ballesteros from noontime show Eat Bulaga, Maritoni Fernandez, Alice Dixon, Ricky Davao, Ricardo Cepeda, Christine Barredo and Daisy Reyes were there to do games.

No less than former Olympian Amparo "Weena" Lim was present in the simple opening rites where she played with ex-national team mainstays Wally Fernandez, Martin Fernandez, Carlo Ventoza and Brandon Chan.

Lim and her companions also conducted free clinics for badminton enthusiasts while early costumers who booked for membership at the newly-constructed court were treated to a raffle wherein gift checks, electric fans and t-shirts were given away.

"It was really a fun-filled experience," said Lim, a former commissioner of the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC).

The Olympic-standard floors were built from T&G wood-suspended systems and are topped with 6.7-millimeter Taraflex Sports M, offering 45 percent more shock absorption and uniform friction.

This is made to avoid hip, knee and ankle injuries with surface treatments of Protescol and Sanosol, which in part is for protection against skin injuries.

The fiberglass reinforcement, on the other hand, gives stability against moisture and temperature changes for a constant playing area set in a sooting environment that lets you focus on your game.

The Spa offers a membership package that includes access to the steam room, sauna, hot and cold whirlpool, and vanity lounges plus discounts on spa services.
