Tuazon paces PSB bowling

Danny Tuazon and Benny Almazar rolled big games to pace the singles event of the seniors division even as Margie Poblete seized control in the distaff side at the start of the PSB Sen. Robert Barbers-Boysen Tenpin Bowling Open Championships at the Green Valley Country Club Bowling Lanes in Pasig City Saturday.

Tuazon came through with a three-game series of 630 to show the way in seniors men’s Group I with Larry Fernandez finishing second with 608 and Willie Dacanay scoring 605 to place third in the week-long event sanctioned by the Philippine Bowling Congress.

Almazar, on the other hand, took charge in Group II with 682 pinfalls while Diody Ruiz and Nestor Berroya taking the next two spots with 655 and 634, respectively.

Almazar likewise led the associate mixed division with 592 followed by Girlie Solis (558) and Dina Granada (470) in that order, while Tobs Renacia rolled 653 pinfalls to lead Roland Salariosa (593) and Larry Fernandez (557) in the graded mixed category.

Poblete, on the other hand, posted a 13-pin lead over Edna Beltran in women’s play as she scored 581 pinfalls. Beltran had 578 while Minia Judan placed third with 533 after round one of the tournament which gathered the top seniors bowlers in the land.

In senior men’s team play, the troika of Frank Barja, Lino Lim and Danny Tuazon took the lead in Group I with a combined 1715 output, 17 pins ahead of the team of Ben Alvarez, Willie Dacanay and Larry Fernandez (1698).

In Group II, the Spotters squad of Philip Rillorta, Fr. Ross Olaybal and Louie Reyes posted a shaky one-pin edge (1658-1657) over Lito Marco, Nestor Berroya and Ernie Santos of ATBA with the triumvirate of Bobby Galang, Nepthy del Rosario and Benny Almazar finishing third with 1624.

In other results, Eve Lombos, Margie Poblete and Carmen Talosig scored 1726 to pace the senior ladies class; the PBA’s John Tiongson, Roland Salarios and Danny Tuazon made 1624 to lead the graded mixed category; Brian Chua, Benny Almazar and Dina Granada had 1701 to show the way in the associate mixed class; and Teddy Irenea and Hermie Castillo led the doubles (Group I) with 1163.

Willy Lim and Cas King combined for 1171 to lead the senior men Group II; Edna Beltran and Rory Villena paced the senior ladies group with 1134; John Tiongson and Danny Tuazon made 1180 and took the lead in the graded mixed; while Pads Calong and Roland Salariosa showed the way in the assoiate mixed division with 1173 pinfalls.
