Aguilar tunes up for Asian moto today

-
Before the Motocross Masters of Asia tournament erupts later this month, Revtex Rocket Glenn Aguilar will have a grand time familiarizing himself with the race course in the third leg of the Philippine National Motocross Championship at the southern municipality of Brooke’s Point in Palawan today.

Aguilar, the FIM Asian Supercross champion, is the current leader in the pro open and 125 divisions of the national series sanctioned by the National Motorcycle Sports and Safety Association (NAMSSA).

"More than just eyeing a firmer grip of the lead, the goal will be to get acquainted with the motocross course. This is our home turf and it is but natural that we defend it from the so-called invaders," said Aguilar, a record seven-time National Rider of the Year and 2003 PSA Awardee.

Aguilar will have his hands full taking on Asia’s best in the second stop of the FIM series to be held March 28, also in Puerto Princesa in Palawan.

But first things first. He must handle the local challenge today.

"The pressure to stay on top is enormous," admitted Aguilar. "All my rivals are after me and will be exerting an extra effort to stop me. But I will be ready."

Aguilar will be joined by the powerhouse Revtex team which includes Wonder Boy Kenneth San Andres, Bebet dela Cruz, Rodel Caneros, Johnny Garcia, Alvin and Jerry Beech and Jun Jun San Andres.

The 27-year-old Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) awardee for motocross is coming off six scintillating victories in the first Zamboanga Invitational Motocross Challenge and the 2004 Malaybalay Motocross Championships last week.

He scored a double-kill in the pro open’s track and motocross divisions of the Zamboanga meet before winning four titles in the pro open and expert divisions of both the track and motocross categories in the Malaybalay meet.

Aguilar, who is also backed by Sidi Boots, Renthal, Oakley, HJC Helmets, Sukida Motorcycles and Pro Grip, finished second at the start of the FIM series in Bali, Indonesia, while ruling both the pro open and 125 divisions of the Philippine Motocross Championships’ first two legs in Batangas and La Union.
