Puerto Princesa is all ready for the biggest motocross event in Philippine history dubbed as the 2004 FIM Puerto Princesa International Motocross Championship "Motocross Masters of Asia" to be staged on a sprawling four-hectare site adjacent to the City Hall March 28.
Barely three weeks before the exciting event, local Puerto Princesa riders carried out the final makeover on their own motocross racetrack to conform to FIM standards for the event sponsored by Dusit Hotel Nikko, The Legend Hotel, Philippine Airlines, Bridgestone, Oakley, Polysport, Triplex, Highland Products, Yehey.Com, ABC-5s Speed, www.motorcyclephilippines.com, the City of Puerto Princesa, the Philippine Sports Commission and the Department of Tourism.
Top riders from 10 nations in Asia, Oceania and the USA including the Philippines have confirmed their participation, promising exciting action that will thrill fans expected to troop to the site on raceday.
Puerto Princesa City Mayor Edward Hagedorn, who has expressed his full support for the undertaking, personally supervised the preparations to make sure the sports-tourism event will once again put their city into international spotlight.
He will be awarding the overall winner with the Mayor Edward Hagedorn Cup, a special token from his office and his constituents.
The visiting riders will also be treated to a tour of the citys favorite destinations like the Crocodile Farm, the white-sand beaches in the islands in Honda Bay and the St. Paul subterranean river and wildlife reserve, together with the staff and crew of global televison conglomerates ESPN and Star TV, which will cover the races and create a sights and sounds segment showcasing Puerto Princesas attractions and show them to over 800 million viewers worldwide.
To be staged simultaneously with the event is Round 4 of the NAMSSA-sanctioned and organized 2004 Philippines National Motocross Series featuring the top riders from various regions and provinces around the country.
"March will be a busy motorsports month for Puerto Princesa City and the 2004 FIM Puerto Princesa International Motocross Championship-Motocross Masters of Asia is just a fitting finale," said Hagedorn, who also bared that two motocross races are scheduled in the province before the international race.
