UST judokas sweep UAAP competitions

University of Santo Tomas swept the judo competitions in the UAAP championships Sunday with the Tigers nipping their counterparts from De la Salle, 4-3, and the Lady Tigress besting their rivals from the University of the Philippines at the UP College of Human Kinetics gym.
Francis Lim, a fine arts sophomore, delivered the marginal victory for the Tigers as he scored a full point with a last-gasp hit against his rival to lift the team to a record sixth straight championship.
Team captain Emil de la Cerna, a graduating engineering student from Quezon City, bagged the MVP plum.
Behind Mary Joan Licup, a graduating nursing student who was adjudged the tournaments MVP, and Kristine Castillo, a masters degree student and winner of the rookie of the year honors, the lady judokas dominated their rivals en route to snapping a four-year drought in the womens play.
"I couldnt ask for more. This is the year for us, and having both titles makes us more inspired to do well next season," said UST head coach Jojo Arce, proud owner of the most number of judo championships in the
