Aguilar seeks fame in New Zealand GP

-
FIM Asian Motocross champion Glenn Aguilar of the Revtex team begins his climb to greater heights in motocross when he participates in the 43rd Blue Wing Honda New Zealand Grand Prix slated in Woodville, New Zealand today.

The 27-year-old Aguilar, who is also the 2003 National Motorcycle Sports and Safety Association’s Rider of the Year for a seventh time, will be joined by teenage rider Kenneth San Andres in the event, which is expected to draw over 700 riders from all over the world.

"This is an experience I will not trade for anything. Just to be invited to the tournament, which brings the world’s best riders together, is already an achievement," said Aguilar, who was cited last year by the Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) for his achievements in motocross.

Aguilar romped away with the coveted FIM Asian 125 cc motocross crown with consistent drives through all the rounds and a powerful performance in the final round held in Guam in November. He then capped a fruitful year with first place finishes in the 250 and 125 cc Open class races of the NAMSSA-sanctioned MP Turbo national series that culminated in Puerto Princesa in December 2003.

San Andres topped the juniors class event in the Guam motocross which won for the Philippines the 2003 FIM Coupe des Nations Asiatique, awarded to the country with the most prolific riders throughout the season.

"With Aguilar and Revtex motor oil, we know that we have a great formula for triumph," said Revtex product manager Ner Marquez Dormiendo.

Aguilar is also backed by Oakley, No Fear, HJC Helmets, Pro Grip, Renthal, Sidi Boots and Atoy Bodykit.

The two will be joined by FIM Asian Motocross commissioner NAMSSA project director Stephan "Macky" Carapiet who has been invited by the New Zealand motocross officials to grace the event.
