Japanese bets vie in Andrada Cup

The country’s top age-group campaigners converge at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center this weekend when the Philippine Tennis Association unwraps the first event of its busy 2004 calendar with the 15th Andrada Cup.

The Group 2 tournament will have nine events—boys’ and girls’ 18 years and under, 16 and under, 14 and under, & 12 and under; and a unisex 10 years and under–to be contested from Jan. 3-9.

The top Filipino junior netters will also be tested not only by their compatriots, but also by Japanese players who are flying in this week from Hyogo, Japan.

They are Kyouheo Kutsunugi, Taiki Katoh, Tashiya Suzuki and Kenji Fukuda in the boys’ division and girls campaigners Naoko Ueshima, Miho Ishida, Chihiro Abe and Aoi Uchinaka.

Spearheading the RP campaigners are boys’ 18 years and under 1 & 2 Irwin de Guzman and Yannick Guba and boys’ 16 and under top guns Nestor Celestino Jr. and Arithmetic Lim. The distaff side will have Czarina Mae Arevalo and Catherine Flores in the 18 and under and Bien Zoleta and Ivy de Castro in the 16 and under.
