The Samsung Philippine International Junior Golf Championship, launched seven years ago to provide a major event in the region is set Jan. 5-9, 2004 at the Wack Wack Golf and Country Clubs East Course.
"For next years event, 10 countries are competing," said Edgardo "Tito Boy" Cantada, president of the Philippine Junior Golf Federation, which stages the annual tournament.
The countries involved this year in one of the most unique tournaments are Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand, Taiwan, South Korea, United States, Malaysia, Indonesia, Australia and Canada.
"Unique because while it is now one of the regions major golfing events involving our top juniors, we charge no entry fee unlike other events," Cantada said.
"We serve buffet breakfasts, lunch, hot dogs, hamburgers, pop corn, ice cream, juices and even "taho" from sun up to sun down for the duration of the tournament including practice round absolutely free."
He said that practically all junior golf associations in the South East Asian region tried to follow his unusual way of conducting this event but they could hardly keep abreast.
Filipino juniors interested in joining may call Gerard Cantada at cell phone 0917-8332352 for further details.
