S’woods up by14 in Asian golf

BAGUIO CITY–Manila Southwoods blew hot and dispel the cold spell to take a commanding lead at the start of the Camp John Hay-Asian Ladies Team Championship at the Camp John Hay golf course.

Tracy Locsin fired four birdies en route to an even par-69 for 54 points to lead the Carmona, Cavite-based team with 171 points in Group 1 of the three-category event backstopped by ePLDT, BAYO with Wilson Sports.

Beachie Abiera had 48, while Sandy Velhagen and Marilyn Ty chipped in 36 and 33 points, respectively to count for the team in the six-to-play-four-to-count event.

Fourteen points down is the Aguinaldo Golf Club with 157 points after identical 44 card from teener Matet Salivio and Rita Horan, while NGAP is just another point down at 156 after a 46 from Samantha Cabrero.

Masa Tsai scored 41 to lead Forest Hills to 158 points in Group 2 with Valley Golf Club at second after a 145 while host CJH is third with 139.

Sonia Bruce fired 38 points to give Baguio Country Club a one-point lead in Group 3. The team tallied 146 with Philippine Navy breathing heavily at their neck with 145 points. The Baguio Ladies Open Golf Association is third with 132 points. — Artemio Dumlao
