Santos trips Arevalo for Hilado title

-
Top seed Anna Patricia Santos outclassed fourth seed Czarina Mae Arevalo, 6-2, 6-1, yesterday to pocket the women’s singles title in the Luis Hilado Memorial Cup Tennis Championships at the Negros Occidental Tennis Association (NOTA) courts in Bacolod City.

It was the second title this year for the Federation Cup veteran Santos after the Philta Open last March.

Santos and Arevalo bagged the doubles title after posting a 6-3, 5-7, 6-2 upset win over top seeds Alyssa Anne Labay and Bien Zoleta.

The men’s doubles title went to the top seeds Johnny Arcilla and Michael Mora III, who scored a 7-6 (2), 6-4 decision over second seeds Alexander Lazaro and Rolando Ruel Jr.

In the men’s singles division, top-seed Arcilla and second pick Joseph Victorino pulled off similar hard-earned wins to advance in the championship round.

Arcilla, eyeing his ninth straight title this year, needed an extra set to conquer fourth-ranked Ruel, 6-4, 2-6, 6-1, while 2002 PCA Open champion Victorino fought back from a first-set win to prevail over Adelo Abadia, 3-6, 7-5, 6-3.
