Assumption, St. Benedict bow out

Assumption College and St. Benedict College bowed out in style at the close of the elimination round of the 34th WNCAA-adidas Sunday.

Assumption pounded Chiang Kai Shek College in junior’s volleyball at the Lyceum gym, 25-19, 25-23, 25-20, to end their campaign at 3-5.

Defending champion Lyceum of the Philippines topped the seniors level as it defeated University of the Assumption-Pampanga, 25-19, 25-18, 25-15, and finished the elims without a loss in nine matches.

Lyceum thus gained the twice-to-beat edge versus St. Scho in the semifinal round that starts Oct. 4.

The other semifinal match will pit Rizal Technological University (no. 2) against UA-P (no. 3).

The 34th WNCAA-adidas is being sponsored by Rustan’s Essenses, Manila Bulletin, Philippine Star, RPN 9, Monster Radio RX 93.1, Gold’s Gym and in part by Cadbury, Secret, Island Cove resorts, Goldilock’s, Cafe Lupe, Purefoods Tender Juicy Hotdog and Centrum.

In basketball games at the St. Scho gym, St. Benedict won over St. Stephen’s High School in juniors play, 64-42, for an overall 2-5 slate.

College of Saint Benilde gained the number two position in the seniors division after beating Miriam College, 75-32, and will meet St. Benedict in the semis.

De La Salle-Zobel likewise edged St. Scho for the other twice-to-beat advantage in the juniors level as it prevailed, 61-56. The two teams will face each other again in the next round.
