Lady Falcons, UP belles forge title showdown

Adamson University ripped Ateneo, 74-54, and University of the Philippines downed De la Salle, 49-42, yesterday to arrange a women’s basketball finals showdown in the UAAP at the Araneta Coliseum.

Ateneo, however, had its bearing in the junior semifinals also yesterday when the Eaglets defeated their bitter rivals, the Bengals from La Salle Zobel, 73-61, to likewise earn a seat in the championship round.

The Eaglets will face the top-seeded Adamson Baby Falcons in the finals. The Baby Falcons beat No. 4 University of Santo Tomas, 65-59, in the other junior semis contest.

National team player Dorothy Torres sizzled with 24 points and dished out five assists for the Lady Falcons, who dominated the Lady Eagles in their final four showdown.

Jaclyn Cruz’s three-point play in the final seconds allowed the second-seeded Lady Maroons to wrap up their semifinal encounter with the Lady Archers, who kept their foes at bay throughout, trailing by just three in the first half, 26-29, and by a point, 34-35, entering the fourth period.

The finals start Oct. 2, also at the Big Dome .
