Reyes coasts past Luat, gains round 3

-
Efren "Bata" Reyes reasserted his supremacy over compatriot Rodolfo "Boy Samson" Luat, 11-6, to advance to the third round of the US Open 9-ball Championship at the Cheasepeake Conference Center in Cheasepeake, Virgina, USA Tuesday.

Reyes, fancied to meet another top Filipino player — Francisco "Django" Bustamante Friday, faces the winner of the Danny Medina-Buzzy Labriola duel in the lower bracket of Group 2.

Bustamante, the leading money winner on the tour with $91,000 in earnings, is battling Tony Watson at presstime with the winner meeting Jeff Pillon in the upper bracket.

In other Tuesday matches, Niels Feijen, Corey Deuel, Jonathan Pinegar, Max Eberle, Jimmy Wetch, Keith McCready and Alex Pagulayan all advanced into round three. McCready trailed Buddy Hall 10-8 on the TV table, but came back to win the last three racks and remain undefeated.
