Miñozas lead roster in Samsung tour in Pueblo

The Miñoza clan of golfers leads the full-packed entry roster for the third leg of the Samsung Amateur Golf Tour and Putting Challenge slated Aug. 30-31 at the picturesque Pueblo de Oro Golf and Country Club in Cagayan de Oro.
Brothers Ben and Paul Miñoza, sister Eva and a number of their relatives will lead the cast for the big weekend at Pueblo where the maximum 120-player registry is expected to be easily breached according to Pueblo de Oro golf director Clifford Celdran.
Paul, who teamed up with elder brother Raul to win the National pro-am last year and became a member of the 2002 Putra Cup squad, and Ben are entered in the championship division along with the other members of the vaunted Del Monte team.
Eva should be one of the players to beat in the womens Class A category.
There will be separate battles for players in Classes A, B and C in the mens division and womens Class B in the two-in-one tourney, which will also feature the Samsung Putting Challenge.
Winners in the Amateur Tour will go home with a television set, the runners-up a DVD system and the third-placers a microwave oven. Putting winners will also receive a exciting appliances from Samsung.
Co-sponsors of the event are Marios Restaurant, Wilson, Gatorade, Tokyo Tokyo, Microtel, Custom Clubmakers and Dunlop Golf with radio stations Killer Bee, Citylite 88.3, Wave 89.1, 99.5 RT and 103.5 K-Lite as official media partners.
"We have been told of the tremendous response from local golfers as well as those from nearby cities like Davao. The Pueblo stop is shaping up to be the biggest in the south," said Boy Blue Ocampo of the organizing Professional Sports Management Group.
The Samsung nationwide circuit is a tournament where not just scratch players get the chance to compete but golfers in all skill levels for both sexes.
Interested parties may call the PSMG office at 653-0010 or 631-5768 or sign up at the host club. All participants are required to submit a certified handicap from their golf club using the USGA handicapping system (IPI or NGAP).
Winners will qualify for the national grand finals slated at the Mt. Malarayat Golf Club in Lipa, Batangas next year.
