As Manila Southwoods ran away with the Diamond division crown, Canlubangs Lina de Guzman denied the back-to-back bid of Lora Roberto for the overall individual title at the close yesterday of the 11th WGAP Luzvimin Invitational golf tournament in Cebu.
De Guzman closed out with a three-over-par 74 equivalent to 51 points for a 151 aggregate, finishing six ahead of Southwoods bet Roberto (48-145) and seven up on Carmelette Villaroman (47-144) at the Cebu Country Club.
Southwoods (180-532) scored a 42-point win over the Stephanie Yu-led Wack Wack (166-490) in the team event of the 54-hole tourney sponsored by the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office, Philippine Sports Commission, San Miguel, Coca-Cola and Philippine Airlines as the official carrier. Yu also had 51 points, the days best.
Canlubang placed third at 484, Sta. Elena fourth at 472 and Del Monte 464.Neighbors Negros and Bacolod provided the excitement that was sorely missing in the Diamond division when they figured in a tiebreak for the crown after finishing with similar 428 totals.
Negros went home with the title due to its six birdies against the four of Bacolod. Navy wound up a far third at 409.
Gabby Monfort, Maita Lustre, Joan Rojas, Regina Zulueta, Josephine Go and Joyce Cuenca made up the Negros squad.
The Pearl division diadem went to Camp Aguinaldo. Malour Belandres completed her big stint for Agui with her 38 points, leading her team to a seven-point victory over Alabang.
Other members of the Aguinaldo team were Edith Apuya, Maline Flores, Belen Ampong, Artie Mediana and Jo Cabrieto.
Other individual winners were Villamors Josephine Barredo in Class A, Kathleen Uy of Bacolod in Class B and Melanie Villar of Alabang in Class C.
