Jayvie Agojo banners the Philippine campaign in the Temecula International junior golf championships firing off Wednesday (Thursday in Manila) at the SCGA Members Club in Murrieta, California.
After pulling off a three-year sweep of the girls 13-15 years category, Agojo sets her sights on the 16-18 years division and is expected to encounter rough-sailing against taller and more seasoned rivals.
Agojo and the rest of the small RP contingent sponsored by Philippine Airlines, Airlift Asia and the Philippine Sports Commission will use the Temecula stint as their final warm up for the Callaway Junior World championships in nearby San Diego scheduled next week.
Also seeing action in the other divisions are Tonton Asistio, Geleen Handog, Aran Olea, Mikee Camitoc, Jordan Mamaril, NN Sevilla and Jik Jik Abdon.
Hosting the last two rounds of the tourney on Thursday and Friday are the Redhawk Golf Club in Temecula and the Menifee Lakes Country Club in Menifee where the awarding ceremonies will also be held.
"The Temecula stint will hopefully get our kids in the groove for the big mission next week in San Diego," said Gerry Handog, president of the Junior Golf Foundation of the Philippines.
Handog added that the other members of the Junior World contingent, including reigning world 8-under champion Dottie Ardina, are already in the San Diego area training every day in their respective age-group courses.
Handog also bared that the Confederation of Fil-American Association has vowed to support the RP kids all throughout their week-long Junior World campaign.
