Chua, Angeles rule Forest Hills tourney

Mark Chua and Martin Angeles combined for 130 points last week to eke out a pulsating Group I victory in the second Forest Hills Invitational at the Forest Hills Golf and Country Club course in Antipolo City.

Chua and Angeles started their bid for the premier group pennant with 45 points in best ball then closed out with 85 in the aggregate phase to score a one-point victory.

Teams totaling 170 and their guests competed in the 36-hole invitational, one of Forest Hills’ major annual tournaments involving club members and their guests, spread over four days at the Jack Nicklaus-designed course.

This year’s tournament was presented by Global Shelter and TaylorMade adidas with CAP, MRT, Turf Co., Club Leisure Management and Rudy Project as major sponsors.

The other backers were Lipovitan, former Rizal Rep. Gilberto Duavit, Tee-MaG Venture Corp., Philippine Wine Merchants, Body Worx Spa and Fitness Club, Manila Southwoods Manor, Camp John Hay Manor, Fairways and Bluewater Resort Golf and Country Club and Fortune Tobacco.

"On behalf of the club, I would like to congratulate all the winners. More importantly, I would also like to thank our gracious sponsors for their support," said club chairman Ferdinand Santos who presented the prizes during the awards ceremony with executive director Bob Sobrepeña and general manager Romeo Carlos.

Eric Lim came up with 131 with 47 in best ball and 84 in aggregate to top Group II while Naty Toribio and Beth Menchavez shot 42-84–126 to rule Group III.

Nonet Rodriguez and Ed Wilkomm combined for 128 (43-85) to settle for second place in Group I. Phine Obmaces and Lynn Mangulabnan made 125 (51-77) to place second in Group II and Manuel Orbeso and Ceasar Hernandez shot came up with the same numbers to clinch second in Group III.
