Golf whiz kid cards 60, up by 16

- Wolen Juan -
Superal went on a birdie barrage and posted an eye-popping 60 yesterday to storm ahead by 16 strokes in the boys Class D division at the resumption of the Samsung Jungolf Tour at the Canlubang north course.

Superal’s 60 from the special tees set a new standard for the jungolf circuit, marking the third time this summer that the 10-year-old boy wonder had lowered his own record.

Superal gunned down two eagles and added two birdies in yet another overpowering show that left both parents and players gasping in awe.

His riproaring start should set him up for another easy stroll to Superal’s seventh consecutive victory in the circuit given major backing by Philippine Airlines, Airlift Asia, Exito Mfg., Global Lighting and Air Liquide, Phils. with Golf Pro as equipment sponsor. Pisanti Golf, Bellevue Manila, Third World Eximport, HBW Enterprises, MCCI Corp. and BF Technology are minor sponsors.

The record-breaking effort actually capped a Superal show as Wolen’s sisters also led their respective division.

After Crystal Faith Superal charged ahead by seven over Paulina Sotto in girls Class C, the youngest of the brood Princess surprised the favorite Kristina Potenciano by taking a two-shot lead in girls Class E.

Dottie Ardina opened up a nine-stroke advantage over Andrea Legaspi in girls Class D with her 73.

The other leaders were Matet Salivio in girls Class A, Linnel de Villa in girls Class B, Steven Bolivar in boys Class C and Miguel Tabuena, returning to the circuit after a long absence, in boys Class E. Tabuena led JR Gonzales by seven.

It marked the first time this season that parents were allowed to caddie for their kids. Sotto’s father, television host Vic, caddied for her, touring pro Mars Pucay handled son Igor’s bag and Tabuena was together with his father Luigi.
