In the April 26 championship match in front of over 3,000 screaming fans, the Red Warriors defeated Korea University team, 97-80. The Warriors, whose coaching staff was led by head coach David "Boysie" Zamar, won all their previous games against the South Pacific Games Guam team on April 23 (84-69), the Korea University team on April 25 (91-86) and Japan’s Toyo University team (86-53). Team Guam won third place.
The Warriors’ victory sweep marked the first time that a visiting team made the feat in the Guam cagefest.
Warrior Paul Anthony Artadi was declared Most Valuable Player of the tournament, while he and fellow Warriors James Carlos Yap were hailed as members of the tournament’s Mythical Five selection.
The 12th International Friendship basketball tournament was sponsored by the University of Guam Endowment Foundation Inc. and the University of Guam as part of the Foundation’s mission to form strategic alliances and outreach throughout Asia.
