Superal puts in superlative performance

-
Wolen Juan Superal bettered the summer’s lowest score he set only the previous day by a stroke, shooting an eagle-spiked eight-under-par 64 yesterday to virtually wrap up his fifth consecutive title in the Samsung Jungolf Tour.

The 10-year-old Superal was just too powerful from the special tees of the Player course of the Orchard Golf and Country Club where he gunned down an eagle on the fourth hole and four birdies on each nines as he pulled away by 24 strokes over James Christian Ricohermoso in the Class D division.

Superal 15-under aggregate for 36 holes of 129 is believed to be one of the lowest in the history of the Jungolf circuit. And he stands to complete the record-breaking romp today as no one is good enough to challenge him.

Superal’s elder sister Crystal Faith is also poised to make it a double-kill for the family in the fourth leg of the series after she bloated her lead to 16 in girls Class C (11-12 years). Crystal Faith had a 77-162 with Paulina Sotto far behind at 89-180.

The event is given major backing by Philippine Airlines, Airlift Asia, Exito Mfg., Global Lighting and Air Liquide, Phils. Pisanti Golf, Bellevue Manila, Third World Eximport, HBW Enterprises, MCCI Corp. and BF Technology are minor sponsors.

Overshadowed by Superal’s explosion was Reb Bareng who submitted the low score in girls Class A so far of five-under 67. With a 151 total, she leads Remijin Camping (73-156) by five.

Kevin Lachica is also in a close fight with Nonoy Negrido for the boys Class A crown after both carded identical 72s. Lachica still leads by two.

The other leaders were Korean Lee Ho In and Margarita Unson in Class B, Jik Jik Abdon in boys Class C, Andrea Legaspi in girls Class D and JR Gonzales and Andie Unson in Class E.

Lee (74-152) led Magnum Bakunawa by four, Margarita Unson was up by 15 over Denise Tan, Abdon was up by six over Amado Eustaquio, Legaspi led Katya dela Cruz by 14 while Gonzales and Andie Unson were virtual champions with double-digit leads.
