Pedregosa elected new NAAP head

A retired police general who has vowed to raise the standard of archery to a new level, Jose Marlowe Pedregosa, was recently elected president of the National Archery Association of the Philippines (NAAP).

General Pedregosa succeeds the late Ramon Lim, who had held the NAAP’s top post for 27 years until his death last December. He was voted unanimously when the other candidate, Atty. Ruperto Sampoleo, faxed his withdrawal and did not attend the meeting which was attended by 18 of 20 club representatives and one honorary president.

Those elected members of the board of directors are Ligaya Manalang, Dr. Leonora Fe Brawner, Dr. Cristina Reyes, Dionisio Flores, Dr. Juan Ma. Pablo Nanagas, Renato Bartolome, Arch. Nestor de Castro and Siegfredo Velasquez.

Pedregosa will announce the new set of NAAP officers shortly.

Except for incumbent secretary general/treasurer Manalang, Dr. Reyes and Flores, those elected will serve a four-year term for the first time.

All of them, however, have impressive credentials. Dr. Nanagas, Philippine General Hospital director, was a former national athlete; Dr. Brawner is an accredited coach and national judge; Bartolome, a former record-holder, represented the country in the 13th Southeast Asian Games, 33rd world championships and fourth Asian Cup championships; Architect de Castro was a former national shooter who now competes in the compound bow division; and Velasquez is a recurve archer who promotes the sport in Cebu.
