Veteran internationalist Jobim Carlos became the first player to break par in the Philippine Airlines Junior Interclub golf championships when he fired a one-under 67 in boys Class D (9-10 years) at the Camp Aguinaldo Golf Club course.
The 10-year-old Carlos, an incoming fifth grader at Holy Infant Academy in Bulacan, banged in birdies on the seventh, 14th and 17th to cushion birdies on the sixth and 12th for the lowest score so far of the tourney kicking of the Jungolf Summer Circuit.
Carlos, however, could only post a one-shot lead as Holen Juan Superal stayed right behind with a 68.
In the team competition, Carlos towed Aguinaldo A teammates JP de Claro, JR Gonzales and Stephen Bolivar to a four-stroke lead over the Villamor squad of Superal with a 225 total. Kagitingan was running third at 241 and Aguinaldo B fourth at 340.
Action in the centerpiece Class A and Class B divisions resumed yesterday at Manila Golf with Manila Southwoods trying to protect a precarious one-shot margin over Riviera and a four-point spread over Aguinaldo.
Andrea Legaspi, meanwhile, was up by one over reigning world champion Dottie Ardina in girls Class D after a 77, Jik Jik Abdon and Mia Piccio paced Class C (11-12) and JP de Claro and Princess Superal showed the way in Class E (8-under).
Abdon scored a 74 to go one up on Benjamin Clark Ekegren, Piccio moved four ahead of Debbie de Villa with her 79, Princess Superal exploited the absence of the big guns in her class to lead Marvie Monsalve by 12 following an 88 while de Claro was neck-and-neck with the fancied JR Gonzales, 78-80.
