Valdez rules Asian Tour leg

The Filipino bowlers missed a sweep as Cecilia Yap lost the ladies crown to another Malaysian bet Shalin Zulkifli, 182-226.

Valdez came up with three sets of turkey on the way to scoring 258 pinfalls as against Ameran’s 217 despite the ferocious cheering from the home crowd.

Ameran earlier rolled 226 pinfalls to topple Filipino Biboy Rivera in their semifinal duel. The 29-year-old Valdez ripped American Duane Camacho, 182-171, in the other semis game.

Yap made it to the finals by beating Liza del Rosario, 247-227, in an all-Filipino semis encounter. Zulkifli reached the finals by trouncing compatriot Wendy Chai, 202-180.

The tour is presented by Aviva (previously known as CGU), one of the largest insurance companies in the world, and sanctioned by the Asian Bowling Federation. It is supported by Royal Selangor and organized by ESPN STAR Sports.

The tour’s next stop is Thailand on May 17-18, then the Philippines June 14-15, Singapore Aug. 24, China Aug. 31-Sept. 1, Indonesia Oct. 12-13, Hong Kong Dec. 6-7 then the grand slam finals in Singapore Jan. 15-18.
