Listup on for national inter-cities chessfest

Registration for the 2003 National inter-cities and municipalities chess team championship is now going on at the National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP) office at fourth floor, Tempus II Bldg., 21-A Matalino St., Diliman, Quezon City.

Hosted and sponsored by the Quezon City government headed by Mayor Feliciano "Sonny" Belmonte, the annual event organized by the NCFP in cooperation with the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), will be held at the multi-purpose gymnasium of the Philippine Science High, School, Agham Road, Diliman, Quezon City starting April 1-7.

More than 40 teams are expected to join the nine-round Swiss System event, to be led by last year’s champion Quezon City and runner-up Mandaluyong City.

Grandmaster Eugene Torre will again banner the host team, while GM Joey Antonio leads an equally star-studded cast from Mandaluyong, winner of the event two years ago.

A participating team may register five players, including two titled players, but only four players will play at a time.

At stake in this tournament is the top purse of P200,000 to the champion team; P100,000 for the runner-up and P75,000 for the third placer. The fourth to 10th placers and individual top performers will also receive cash prizes.

Registration is set at P5,000 per team. For more details, interested parties may contact NCFP at 435-1113 to 14 or visit the NCFP office during office hours.
