Thorpe sets swim record

Thorpe more than justified his decision to add the race to his heavy workload of freestyle swims, clocking two minutes 00.11 seconds in his first Australian open medley final. He sliced 0.15 sec off Matt Dunn’s former national and Commonwealth record of 2:00.26 sec set at the 1998 Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur.
