Free Wind rules Philracom Open

Free Wind thwarted Hyperbid’s upset bid down the stretch to rule the Philracom Open Stakes Race and stretch his winning run to 12 at San Lazaro yesterday.

The four-year-old bay Free Wind took the best dished out by last year’s top multiple stakes winner Golden Ballet and proved he’s better although he had to foil Hyperbid’s bid in the last 50 meters to keep his winning run at the hippodrome.

A new rider, a handicap weight of 56 kgs and the 1,900-meter distance proved nothing to Free Wind who ran according to form to beat a lean six-horse field that included Perfect Storm and coupled entries Sunny Contender and Sunny Puddles for the top P300,000 purse for the Liong family. – Ramon Romualdez
