SSC clobbers SBC in NCAA mens tennis tourney

San Sebastian College clobbered San Beda, 3-0, last Saturday to remain unbeaten after three games in the 78th National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) mens tennis tournament at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center.
The Stags, mentored by former World Youth Cupper Frederick Morgan, displayed their awesome form with Nino Salvador hacking out a 6-2, 6-0 win over Neil Fernandez in the first singles and Salvador teaming up with Arvin Ruel, younger brother of RP Davis Cupper Rolando Ruel, to demolish Borgs Solpico and Fernandez, 6-0, 6-2, in the doubles.
Michael Tenoria won by default over Emerson Ocampo in the second singles.
The loss put the Red Lions into a three-way tie for second place with College of St. Benilde and Philippine Christian University at 2-1.
The Blazers of Bubut Nalus blasted University of Perpetual Help-Rizal, 3-0, after Juan Vicente Cruz clobbered Dennis Canaria, 6-1, 6-1.
Edwin Agawin and Jonathan Molina outplayed John Motol and Canaria, 7-5, 6-0, and John Rey Moreno defeated Harvy Morse, 8-1.
PCU, on the other hand, nipped Mapua Institute of Technology, 2-1. The Cardinals won the first singles behind Raffy Santiago, who beat Roel Licayan, 6-4, 6-4, but the Dolphins won the doubles courtesy of Ricardo Solomon and Carlo Estrella over Santiago and Cruz, 1-6, 6-4, 6-1, and the second singles behind Estrella over Flint Almiron, 6-0, 6-2.
In the juniors division, San Beda, PCU and St. Benilde prevailed to share the lead at 3-0.
