Xavier match play up today

-
Prominent sons of Xavier School will play for a cause in the second IBank-Xavier Match Play Tournament, a two-stage team competition which fires off today at the Sta. Elena Golf Club course in Cabuyao, Laguna.

The major sponsors are Heritage Park, Toyota Shaw, Hongkong Shanghai Bank, Deco Centrum, Discovery Spa, Eva Air, Goodyear Tires, Ben Line Agencies, Republic Powdercoat, Stanwood, Fuji/G.E., PLDT, Pharaoh KTV.

Minor sponsors are Tan&Venturanza Law Offices, Akiga Restaurant, Four Arrows Marketing, Quik Snack, Burlington Socks, Steintek, Copper Trading, Popeye Chicken, Lee Jeans, Fuji-Haya, Oriental Tin, and other individuals who donated in a personal capacity.

The tournament with a format inspired by the renowned Ryder Cup and the local Federation League is organized by the Xavier ’72 Dragons to benefit the Xavier School Educational and Trust Fund, the PGH Indigent Patient Fund and Notre Dame de Vie.

Four teams — CK, Tiger, Stanwood 80s and Dragons - are seeing action in two rounds of competitive and funfield golf with the second half set to be played next Monday, Jan. 20 also at Sta. Elena.

The skippers of the various teams — Ruben Tan and Jimmy (CK), Dennis Huang and Johnson Tan (Tigers), Samson Lim (Stanwood) and Robbie Anonas and Greg Yang (Dragons) have assembled potent lineups ready to challenge for the crown.

They will be fielding their best teams playing the following formats: singles, international scramble, 18-hole gross medal, cumulative, four-ball, four-some, regular scramble and high-low.

The nine formats make the IBank-Xavier Match Play different to the popular Federation League which has four.

Also at stake is a hole-in-one prize of P100,000 which will be divided equally in case more than one player scores an ace.
