UCAP derby gets going today

Champion breeders from America and cockfight heavyweights in the national circuit clash today as the UCAP International 9-Cock Derby gets going at Mandaluyong Coliseum.

Hosted by OPMI president Vic Yu and supported by the United Cockers Association of the Philippines (UCAP), the three-day cockfest is Mandaluyong Coliseum’s grand opener for 2003. Derby starts at 5 p.m. bannering some 65 fights. Sponsors are Sagupaan Super Feeds, Pagcor-Casino Filipino, Heritage Hotel and Washout Shampoo.

Heading the list of the American team are Kelly Green of Alabama, reigning 2002 Texoma 11–Cock Derby champion; Chuck Berry of Oklahoma, champion of the 2000 UCAP International Derby; Bobby Jones of Texas, Jimmy Cody of Alabama, Howard Belk of California, Fil-Ams George Goitia, Rene Rene Medina and Boy de Guzman of California.

But wise money bets should go on cockfight heavyweights like 1999 UCAP International Derby champion Danding Cojuangco, sabong idol Patrick Antonio, Arthur and Bebot Uy of Davao, Wacky Salud of Cebu, Choy Ampil, Otik Geroso, Bimbong Coscoluella and Mayor Juancho Aguirre of Negros, Butch Macasaet and Jun Marasigan of Batangas, Bong Pineda of Pampanga, Kenneth Chua of Iloilo, Gerry Ramos and Mayor Nene Aguilar of Las Piñas, Ashley Arayat of Cavite, Pol Estrellado of Laguna, Rep. Claude Bautista of Davao and Rep. Lawrence Wacnang of Kalinga.

Not to be outdone are the entries of UCAP president Raymond Velayo, LGBA champion Mauro Prieto, Biboy Enriquez, Mario Villamor, Alan Tan, Mayor Berto Uy, Blandy Tolentino, Alex Tang, Edgar Santos, Roel Ricafort, Benjie Lim, Romero Yu, Bobby del Rosario, Bobby Wong, Boy Diaz, Ricky Castillo, Bobby Doromal, Carding Dapat, Emil Chua, Eric dela Rosa, Gov.
